Claiming a device as an owner

When a project member claims a device, the project becomes the device's owner project. The claimed device is assigned a unique trackingId, and the device owner project has secure access to the data generated by that device via the trackingId.

A device can later be unclaimed, or removed, by the members of the owner project if the device is sold, decommissioned, or otherwise taken out of service. In this case, the trackingId is unlinked from the device, and the device can be claimed by another project and assigned a new trackingId. The new owner project will not be able to access the old data of the device.

Also be aware that a device owner project can be different from a vendor project.
