How to get EV charge point reliability indicators

This tutorial shows how to retrieve EV charge point reliability information with the HERE EV Charge Points API v3.

Reliability information is available for supported EVSEs and connector groups that provide real-time status updates.

Note
Reliability information is not available for all charging locations.

Access to reliability information requires an additional licence. Contact your HERE Account Executive for details.

Prerequisites

Before you start, complete your HERE platform onboarding and obtain application credentials. For more information about onboarding and credentials, see Get started.

This section requires you to understand basic requests in the HERE EV Charge Points API v3 API as covered in Get one or multiple charging locations.

Understanding reliability indicators

Reliability information helps applications evaluate the quality and dependability of EV charging infrastructure.

The reliability object contains three types of information:

  • operational, which indicates the overall operational reliability of an EVSE.
  • statusQuality, which reflects the freshness and consistency of status information received from the charging infrastructure.
  • chargingSessions, which provides information about recent successful charging activity.

For field definitions, supported values, and response examples, see the EVCP API v3 reference for details.

Operational reliability

The operational indicator reflects the observed operational reliability of charging infrastructure.

Applications can use this indicator to identify charging options that may experience operational issues and to prioritise more reliable charging options when presenting charging locations to drivers.

The indicator has the following values:

ValueMeaning
1Significant reliability issues have been observed.
2Some reliability issues may be present.
3The charging infrastructure is operating reliably.

A higher value indicates better observed operational reliability. If the operational field is not present, applications may treat the value as 0 (no data available).

The indicator is available only at the EVSE level. Support for connector groups may be added later.

Applications should treat operational as a numeric score rather than a fixed set of enumerated values. Additional values may be introduced in future releases to provide finer-grained reliability assessments.

Status quality

The statusQuality field indicates the reliability of status data delivery.

This indicator reflects the freshness and consistency of status information received from the charging infrastructure. Applications can use this value as an additional signal when interpreting availability and status information.

The indicator has the following values:

ValueMeaning
reliableStatus data is current and consistent.
outdatedStatus data delivery is significantly delayed.
For example, the EVSE status timestamp is more than 10 minutes older than the time the event is received. In rare cases, future timestamps can also trigger this indicator.
unreliableStatus data contains anomalies or inconsistencies.
For example, the EVSE repeatedly sends status events out of order, generates excessive numbers of status events, or reports unexpected status values.

Examples:

  • Status is OUT_OF_ORDER and statusQuality is reliable because status updates are being received as expected and no delivery issues have been detected.
  • Status is CHARGING and statusQuality is unreliable because the same CHARGING status event was received 256 times within 3 minutes, indicating an anomaly in the status feed.
  • Status is AVAILABLE and statusQuality is outdated because the status timestamp is from the previous day, indicating issues with the EVSE or network.

The indicator is available only at the EVSE level. Support for connector groups may be added later.

Because new values may be introduced in the future, applications should ignore unknown values.

Relationship between the operational and statusQuality indicators

The operational and statusQuality indicators measure different aspects of EVSE reliability and should be interpreted independently.

The operational indicator is an integer value that reflects the observed operational reliability of an EVSE. It indicates whether the EVSE appears to operate reliably based on reliability signals observed by HERE.

The statusQuality indicator is an extensible string enumeration that reflects the reliability of status data delivery. It indicates whether status information is current, consistent, and delivered without noticeable delays.

Because the indicators evaluate different characteristics, their values are not necessarily correlated. For example:

  • An EVSE may have a high operational value while statusQuality indicates unreliable status delivery. In this case, the EVSE appears to operate reliably, but the status data may be inconsistent or delayed.
  • An EVSE may have a lower operational value while statusQuality indicates reliable status delivery. In this case, status information is delivered consistently, but the EVSE may exhibit operational reliability issues.

Charging session statistics

The chargingSessions object provides information about recent charging activity observed for an EVSE or connector group.

These statistics complement the reliability indicators by providing historical usage data. Applications can use this information to determine whether a charger has been used successfully in recent weeks and how recently successful charging activity was observed.

ValueMeaning
lastSuccessfulTimestamp of the most recent observed successfull charging session.
successfulCountNumber of successfully observed charging sessions during the last 28 days.

Get reliability information

HTTP request

GET https://evcp.hereapi.com/v3/locations
Authorization: Bearer ACCESS_TOKEN

HTTP call to the endpoint

To access the {{book.productName}} locations endpoint, send this request:

GET v3/locations
Host: evcp.hereapi.com
User-Agent: curl/8.6.0
Accept: application/json
Authorization: Bearer ACCESS_TOKEN

The example uses cURL syntax and the location id: here:evcp:charginglocation:246ud9wr5pw4b-aGVyZS1ldjplY29tb3ZlbWVudDoyMzY3NTU5NDE to reference the respective charging location. The following example uses cURL syntax to retrieve reliability information for a charging location that provides real-time status updates:

Get reliability information for EVSEs

The response is as follows:

          }
        }

The response contains a reliability object for each EVSE.

In this example, all EVSEs have an operational reliability level of 3 and a statusQuality value of reliable. The response also includes charging session statistics, such as the time of the last successful charging session and the number of successful charging sessions during the previous 28 days.

Get reliability information for connector groups

curl -H "Authorization: Bearer $ACCESS_TOKEN" "https://evcp.hereapi.com/v3/locations/here:evcp:charginglocation:246ud9wr5pw4b-aGVyZS1ldjplY29tb3ZlbWVudDoyMzY3NTU5NDE?fields=reliability,connectorGroups" | jq

The response is as follows:

{
  "items": [
    {
      "id": "here:evcp:charginglocation:246ud9wr5pw4b-aGVyZS1ldjplY29tb3ZlbWVudDoyMzY3NTU5NDE",
      "location": {
        "lat": 60.178642,
        "lng": 24.927415
      ...
      "connectorGroups": [
        {
          "standard": "IEC_62196_T2",
          "maxPower": 22000,
          "connectorCount": 3,
          "availableConnectorCount": 1,
          "reliability": {
            "chargingSessions": {
              "lastSuccessful": "2026-09-15T09:51:06Z",
              "successfulCount": 159
            }
          }
        }
    ...
    }
  ]
}

The response includes reliability information for the connector group. Unlike EVSE reliability information, connector group reliability currently consists of charging session statistics only. These statistics provide aggregated usage information for the connectors included in the group.

In this example, the chargingSessions object contains the timestamp of the most recent successful charging session and the number of successful charging sessions observed during the previous 28 days.
