| US | A narrative statement produced by the National Weather Service, frequently issued on a routine basis, to provide information regarding the potential of significant weather expected during the next 1 to 5 days. A National Weather Service product which provides follow up information on severe weather conditions (severe thunderstorm or tornadoes) which have occurred or are currently occurring. A non-emergency message that provides updated information about an event in progress, an event that has expired or concluded early, pre-event preparation or mitigation activities, post-event recovery operations, or other administrative matters pertaining to the Emergency Alert System. A product used to convey information regarding weather or hydrologic events in the next few hours. A special weather statement may be issued by the NWS for hazards that have not yet reached warning or advisory status or that do not have a specific code of their own, such as widespread funnel clouds. They are also occasionally used to clear counties from severe weather watches. An emergency message that defines a local or state 911 telephone network outage by geographic area or telephone exchange. Authorized officials may provide alternative phone numbers in which to reach 911 or dispatch personnel. Not yet defined and not in the suite of products for relay by NWS. |

| CA | A more generic Weather Warningmay be issued when a progression or combination of weather hazards are expected to occur as a storm moves through an area. Special Weather Statements are issued for weather events that are unusual, cause general inconvenience or public concern and cannot adequately be described in a weather forecast. Issued along with Air Quality Advisories, recommending that people with certain health considerations consult their physician. A Marine Weather Statement may be issued when the nature of the marine weather condition is unusual, or identifies the potential of marine warning conditions. Special Marine Warning is issued when any other weather-related phenomena that may result in a hazardous impact to marine operations locally are observed or forecast. For example, a marine forecaster may decide to issue a Special Marine Warning when a prolonged period of freezing precipitation is forecast over a marine area or an adjacent coastal zone. Special Marine Watch is issued when conditions are favourable for the development of any other weather-related phenomenon that may result in hazardous impact to marine operations locally. For example, a marine forecaster may decide to issue a Special Marine Watch when an area of freezing precipitation is occurring, or is forecast to occur, over a marine area or adjacent coastal zone. |
