Introduction to HERE EV Profiles API

The HERE EV Profiles API provides access to comprehensive vehicle metadata and electric vehicle profiles. This service acts as a database that supports tour planning applications by enabling developers to retrieve detailed information about vehicle makes, models, and variants including technical specifications, dimensions, and electric vehicle characteristics.

With the availability of this vehicle metadata (specifically through the profileId parameter), you can perform precise range and recharge calculations for your EV fleets within the HERE Tour Planning API. This capability helps developers optimize EV fleet utilization and minimize idle time by accurately balancing driving distances with charging requirements.

Available API endpoints

The HERE EV Profiles API provides a hierarchical structure for accessing vehicle data through the following main endpoint categories:

Core endpoints:

• Vehicle makes (/makes): Access top-level manufacturers like Tesla, BMW, or Mercedes. Different manufacturers have different battery and efficiency characteristics that affect range calculations.
• Vehicle models (/makes/{makeId}/models): Browse specific product lines within a manufacturer's portfolio. Different models from the same manufacturer have varying battery capacities and motor efficiency. You need the exact model ID to retrieve correct vehicle characteristics.
• Vehicle variants (/makes/{makeId}/models/{modelId}/variants): Retrieve detailed technical specifications and configurations. Each variant has a unique profileId for a specific configuration (battery size, motor type, weight rating).

Monitoring endpoints:

• Health check (/health): Verify service operational status.
• Version info (/version): Get current API version information.
• API documentation (/openapi): Access complete OpenAPI specification.

How to use this API

To retrieve vehicle specifications for tour planning, follow this workflow:

1. Browse manufacturers - Get available vehicle makes (Tesla, BMW, and so on)
2. Select product lines - Find models within your chosen manufacturer (Model S, i3, and so on)
3. Get technical specs - Retrieve detailed variant information including the profileId data.
4. Obtain more efficient tours for electric vehicles by providing the EV profile ID in your HERE Tour Planning requests.
