What is HERE Navigation (HNAV)?
-----------------------------------
HERE Navigation (HNAV) is a production-ready automotive navigation solution for connected vehicles and Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs). It combines navigation software, map content, connected services, cloud-based configuration, service entitlement, and over-the-air update capabilities. HNAV helps OEMs deploy navigation faster, manage features centrally, and evolve navigation capabilities during the vehicle lifecycle.
HERE Navigation is designed to:
Reduce development complexity and accelerate deployment
Provide continuously updated navigation experiences.
Enable OTA updates for maps, services, features, and UI.
Support Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) architectures.
Provide centralized fleet and feature management through the HERE Navigation Portal.
What are the HNAV features?
-------------------------------
HNAV capabilities are generally delivered through service packages. OEMs can select and activate functionality based on vehicle program requirements, market availability, license entitlement, and subscription configuration.
Turn-by-turn navigation and route guidance
Dynamic routing using traffic-aware routing logic
Live traffic information, ETA prediction, and alternative route suggestions
Lane guidance, signpost guidance, and junction view support
Address, place, and POI search
Speed limit display, hazard warnings, and incident information, where supported
EV routing, EV range calculation, and charging station discovery, where enabled
Truck and commercial vehicle routing, where enabled
Offline fallback using cached data or protected onboard maps
OEM customization, branding, multi-display integration, and feature configuration through the HERE Navigation Portal
HERE Navigation Portal
--------------------------
The HERE Navigation Portal is the central control point for managing navigation configurations, service activation, subscriptions, deployments, and fleet-level navigation changes.
Using the portal, OEMs and authorized administrators can manage navigation capabilities across supported vehicle fleets.
Manage subscriptions and service packages
Configure vehicle-specific features
Activate or deactivate supported services
Manage deployments and releases
Monitor vehicle or fleet configuration status
Support role-based access and administrative control, where configured
Offline and Connectivity Behavior
-------------------------------------
Does HNAV require an internet connection all the time?
No. HNAV is online-first, but it can support offline fallback through cached navigation data and protected onboard maps, depending on the configured solution. However, live services such as traffic, online search, service activation, cloud configuration updates, and fresh map streaming may require connectivity.
EV Routing Support
----------------------
Does HERE Navigation support EV routing?
Yes. HNAV can support EV-specific routing capabilities when the required EV service package and vehicle data integration are available. EV routing helps plan trips based on battery state, vehicle range, charging requirements, charging preferences, and expected State of Charge (SoC) at arrival.
Typical EV-related capabilities may include:
Charge-aware routing
Charging station discovery
EV range calculation
SoC-aware route planning
Charging stop recommendations
Charger preference management
Truck and Commercial Vehicle Support
----------------------------------------
Does HNAV support trucks and commercial vehicles?
Yes. HNAV can support commercial vehicle navigation when truck-specific capabilities are licensed and configured. These capabilities help route vehicles according to physical, legal, and operational restrictions.
Truck routing
Vehicle dimension restrictions
Weight restrictions
Hazardous material restrictions
Tunnel restrictions
Commercial vehicle guidance
Lane Guidance and Junction View
-----------------------------------
Lane Guidance and Junction View are navigation guidance features that help drivers understand upcoming maneuvers in complex road environments.
These features are useful when approaching lane splits, highway exits, interchanges, roundabouts, ramps, or complex junctions where a driver must select the correct lane or follow a visually guided maneuver.
Depending on availability and configuration, the platform may support:
Lane-level guidance
Detailed junction view visualization
Signpost guidance
Real-time maneuver assistance
* Support for multi-display navigation experiences, where integrated
Common Support FAQs
-----------------------
Why is a feature not visible in the vehicle?
A feature may be unavailable because it is not licensed, not entitled for the vehicle group, not enabled in configuration, not supported in the market, or dependent on connectivity or vehicle data inputs.
Why does routing behave differently offline?
Offline behavior can be reduced compared with connected operation because live services, fresh traffic, online search, and dynamic service updates may not be available without connectivity.
Why is EV routing not proposing a charging stop?
Check whether EV routing is enabled and whether the vehicle data required for SoC, range, consumption, charging preferences, and route conditions is available to the navigation system.
Why does truck routing avoid or select a certain road?
Truck routing decisions may be influenced by vehicle profile restrictions, legal restrictions, map attributes, tunnel category rules, hazardous material settings, and route optimization preferences.
