How winter speed limits and special speed limits are represented in HERE map data for FIN, Baltics and The Netherlands

Finland & Baltics

Winter speed limits are coded as Single Link Condition: Special Speed Situation (Dependent).

Specific Winter Speed Limits are applied to many higher functional class roads during the winter time.

Winter Speed Limit are lower Speed limits for specific road segments to reduce risks with driving in winter conditions. Winter Speed Limits are generally in use from late October to early April. During this period Speed Limits of 80 km/h or above are lowered to 60 km/h - 100 km/h.

FIN: Additionally, Winter Speed Limit signs cannot be distinguished from regular speed limit signs. Due to this, Speed limits of 60 km/h or above is ignored if the video is collected between mid-October to mid-April.

Special Speed Situation Dependent Type(Approximate Seasonal Time) is applied on all links that have different (specifically lower) speed limits during winter time (please also see HERE Country Specific Rules Data Specification).

Note: In Finland, Motorway sign or Motorized Vehicle Sign does not imply any specific speed limit. But always a posted sign will tell the current speed limit. If no sign is seen when, example entering the motorway, speed limit is 80km/h, if being outside BUA sign area.
