How to obtain the Argentina map approval by IGN
Overview
All producers, publishers, and importers of map products for Argentina market must comply with the official cartography established by the Instituto Geográfico Nacional de la República Argentina (IGN).
Before a map product can be commercialized or distributed in Argentina, producers/publishers should obtain approval from IGN. To comply with this regulation HERE has applied for certification and received the approvals for the continental map of Argentina.
Note: If the customers choose not to display borders, it will not be necessary to submit the approval process. However, we recommend obtaining this confirmation from IGN before distributing or commercializing.
What is IGN interested in?
In accordance with Article 19 of Law 22.963, the IGN is interested in the partial or total representation of the Continental, Insular and Antarctic Territory of the Argentine Republic, which should comply with the official version established by the IGN.
Approval Process
IGN implies two processes of revision and corrections of each map that represents Argentina territory called: Print Authorization and Final Approval.
Companies importing, publishing, or distributing map products in Argentina must complete these approval processes before the products can be commercialized or distributed.
Important Information
The approval obtained is not transferable.
HERE cannot represent customers in this process.
Application Submission
Since 2019, IGN has required applications to be submitted through the Trámites a Distancia (TAD) portal.
To submit an application, applicants must have:
A CUIT (Unique Tax Identification Code).
A fiscal password.
Note: Only local people/companies have tax id. Customers outside Argentina may need local representation to complete the process.
IGN Response Process
After the application is submitted:
1. The average time to receive an initial response or approval from IGN is approximately two weeks.
2. Once approved, IGN provides a registration/tracking number.
3. This registration number must be presented to Argentine Customs when importing a map product or a product containing map data.
