HERE Lane attribution in Core Map - Difference between Physical Number of Lanes and Lane Info
HERE Lane attribution in Core Map data formats - what is the difference between Lanes From/To and Physical Number of Lanes information?
What is the coverage in each case (Mosaic)?
It can be confusing to retrieve different Lane attributes/counts, for instance when using HERE RDF data, even for the same location with different values.
Customers might not be aware on how to use this and what to use for different purposes.
1) Lanes From/To:
"Lanes From/To" is a link-level attribute and it generally provides information on the number of lanes for the main driving path. Therefore not all lane types are available and counted.
The following lane types are NOT supported:
Shoulder Lanes
Ramp Transition Lanes
Turn Lanes at intersection
Parking Lanes
Bus/Taxi/Truck Lanes
Please see RDF Reference Manual (v2026.02, 4.4.23 Lanes From/To (From/To Ref_Num_Lanes).
Related to the coverage of this attribute, generally one can expect this for all locations with ADAS coverage Functional Class 1-4 roads. (dependent on ADAS coverage/Country/Functional Class, see HERE Mosaic/Tableau, i.e. Mosaic - Content Summary: Country Content Summary – Tableau Prod Server ).
2) Physical Number of Lanes:
"Physical Number of Lanes"* is a Link-only attribute also, however all Lanes (Lane Types) available are counted and specified for links that require lane level attribution (example: Lane Traversal Conditions/Extended Lanes) and additional information on Lane objects are found in RDF_Lane.
Please see RDF Reference Manual (v2026.02, 4.4.30 Physical Number of Lanes (Physical_Num_Lanes).
Coverage is available more punctual, related to links where connectivity or other lane-level attribution is applied (please see extracts from Mosaic/Tableau on coverage for Extended Lane & Lane Markings).
